Program Note:
The piece is one of the choral pieces from the Symphony “The Saviour”, which was mainly composed in 2014. The choral pieces of the symphony can be sung as independent pieces. The texts were extracted from the 1961 Liber Usualis, following the liturgical instructions, and from the Vulgata.
“Et Incarnatus Est” was sung for the first time at the Christmas Vigil of 2015. For this occasion, a version made for the Catholic Parish of St. Thomas More (Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, Toronto) was conducted by Peter Mahon.
The original version in Latin was sung by the first time at the University of Toronto on 6th April 2016.
“Et Incarnatus Est” is from the Credo..

Text (from the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed):
Et incarnatus est de Spiritu Sancto
Ex Maria Virgine, et homo factus est.

Translation:
And by the Holy Spirit was incarnate
of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

Instruction for Liturgical use:
In the Liturgy, the Gregorian Credo III is sung until the “Et incarnatus est“, when a polyphonic “Et Incarnatus Est” may be sung. Then, the Gregorian Credo III continues from the “Crucifixus etiam pro nobis” until the end. If the Credo III is transposed from its written pitch in F, then this piece should also be transposed so that both are in the same pitch.
